miner from Nevada, Arthur M. LeCoump was born in 1885. In 1916, he married Agnes Sedy, who was born in Wisconsin in 1891. They came to Anchorage in 1920 when Arthur was employed by the Alaska Railroad on its tunnel driving crews. After construction of the railroad was complete, he worked as heating plant fireman for the railroad.

Agnes was an ardent gardener and homemaker, and in her spare time she worked at Bagoy’s Greenhouse during the summer months. In his spare time, Art invested in real estate, and built and remodeled many homes and apartments. Upon his retirement in 1943, he liquidated all of his properties in preparation for moving to Seattle, Washington.

In 1944, Art was driving his car to Valdez for shipment to Seattle via Alaska Steam when he was involved in a head-on collision with a truck in Thompson Pass. He was killed instantly. Agnes had preceded him to Seattle and was visiting relatives in Wisconsin when the accident occurred. She survived her husband for 43 years, until she died in Paradise, California in 1987. She and Arthur are both buried in the Anchorage Memorial Park in the Masonic tract.

Four children were born to Art and Agnes. One died at birth and one survived only six months. Art, Jr., born in 1918, was married and divorced, had no children, and died in 1997. Robert, born in 1921, married Evangeline Kindsvater in Seattle and they had four children: Lorraine, Mark, Jack and Lisa. Lorraine, Mark and Jack, with their respective spouses, had two children each. Robert died in 1997.
