aul Meier was born in Saxony, Germany in 1876. Odile Marcott was born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1877. The two were married in 1900 in Butte, Montana. They came to Alaska in 1923, first landing at LaTouche, where Paul found temporary employment. When LaTouche started to go the way of a ghost town and earning a living there became difficult, they moved to Anchorage in 1925. Paul almost immediately found work in Anchorage as a steamfitter and sheetmetal man with the Alaska Railroad.
Paul and Odile had seven sons; Paul H., born in 1901; Herman L., born in 1903; Art, born in 1905; Alvin “Lovey,” born in 1907; Edwin L. “Eddie,” born in 1910; William J., born in 1912 (he died in 1914) and Sylvan P. “Snooks,” born in 1914. Although Paul and Odile moved to the state of Washington in 1931, five of their sons remained to make their homes in Anchorage.
Son Paul H. Meier died in 1919 at the age of eighteen, and is buried in Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. Son Herman died in 1926 at the age of twenty-three. Odile Marcotte Meier died in Seattle in 1952 and her husband, Paul died there in 1957. Son Art died in 1965 and is buried at Anchorage Memorial Park.
