he oldest child in a family of ten brothers and sisters, Burt A. Dool was born in Cassopolis, Michigan in 1880. He made his way to the west coast in search of opportunity and became involved in the laundry business, working for the Metropolitan Laundry in Seattle, Washington. He eventually became superintendent of the plant until 1922 when he moved his family to Anchorage.

Eli DeHon, who was Lillian Dool’s brother, had started the Pioneer Laundry in Anchorage in 1915. Burt joined the business upon his 1922 arrival. Some years later, Burt became sole owner of the plant, which he operated until his passing in 1934. He is buried in the I.O.O.F. Tract, Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery.
