ohn Hugo Erickson was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1885. At the age of sixteen he signed on to the crew of a sailing vessel and rounded Cape Horn, bound for the United States. He arrived in Valdez in 1912 and was engaged in mining. In 1917, he moved to Anchorage and was employed with the H. J. Emard Packing Company. He entered the service of the Alaska Railroad in the telephone and telegraph department, and eventually became foreman of the department, a job he held until his death in 1934.

Ingeborg Haggqvist Hendrickson was born in Rockland, Michigan in 1888. She traveled to Valdez in 1913 with her friends, the Bloomquists. In 1914, she made a visit to Seattle, and on her return trip to Valdez, she had an unforgettable experience when her vessel, the Admiral Sampson was rammed by the ship Princess Victoria.

After their marriage, Ingeborg and John Erickson had three daughters and a son while living in Anchorage. Their daughter Ebba Erickson Montgomery, born in 1918, had two children: Julie K. Grinder and Marilyn Jo Odom. Son John Leonard, born in 1922, had one daughter, Deborah Lee. Daughter Alva Davey, born in 1926, had four children: Linnea Zoe Sledge, Bonnie Jean Pischke, Cheryl Edith James and Linda Marie Ball. Daughter Edith Colley had two children, Randy and Shiela. John Hugo Erickson passed away in 1934, and Ingeborg died in 1949. They are both buried in the Masonic Tract, Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. Their son, John Leonard, died in 1975.
